Initially the new ball valve was meant for the irrigation industry in Colorado. Quite by accident, other industries discovered it and soon the freeze tolerant ball valve was being installed in the coal mines of Wyoming, ready-mix concrete delivery trucks all across the United States, to name a few. The main focus initially was to replace the Febco ball valves found on all irrigation backflow devices. Not only the FEBCO brand of ball valves, but APOLLO BALL VALVES, WILKIN BALL VALVES, WATTS BALL VALVES, NIBCO ball valves, along with a host of other brands of after market ball valves found at the local big box stores.
Sadly, 99% of irrigation repair  people didn't want to give their customers a better ball valve that didn't self destruct when it froze. We call it the G & C factor. GREED & CORRUPTION.  Replacing cracked febco ball valves, sometimes every year, was big business. Fortunately local  ACE HARDWARE stores started carrying them. That makes sense being their motto is "ACE-THE HELPFUL PLACE".
